1. Try disconnecting all phones in the household except the phone being affected.
2. Do a test call to see if the unit rings.
3. If the phone rings at this time, begin reconnecting all the other units one at a time. If the affected phone does not ring again, this is an indication that there are too many phones in the loop.
4. If possible try testing the phone on a totally different phone jack (friends or neighbors) to check if the same thing happens.
Also make sure the phone is not connected through an external answering machine, caller ID box, fax machine, computer, splitter, or defective DSL filter. If so then connect the telephone cord directly to the telephone jack and make a test call.
