Try the following troubleshooting steps. Be sure to follow steps 1-6 in order.
1. Check to see if the AC adapter has been properly plugged in.
2. Check to see if the phone cord is plugged in properly.
3. Disconnect AC adapter.
4. Let set for 10 minutes then reconnect.
5. Disconnect battery and reconnect it.
6. Place handset back on base, let set for 5 seconds, pick it up again.
7. Move phone to a different location in the home. (Different phone jack)
8. Make sure phone jack is working.
9. Make sure phone is not sharing an AC outlet with any other types of electronic equipment.
10. Make sure base AC adapter is not sharing a multi outlet plug.
11. Make sure phone cords are not plugged into a splitter, fax, computer, remote answering machine, or an external caller ID box.
12. Phone cord needs to be plugged directly into phone jack to insure optimal performance.
13. Make sure you are using the original AC adapter that came with the unit. (Adapter will say Uniden on it)
14. Make sure proper battery is being used.
15. Make sure battery is installed and plugged in all the way. (You should feel or hear the battery click when plugging it in)
16. Make sure the phone is not hooked up with any other cordless phones.
If none of the above work then follow the following steps:

Disconnect the battery from the handset.

Press and hold the *(star) and #(pound) keys at the same time.

Do not let off the buttons at all.

While holding * and # reconnect the battery. You should hear confirmation beep tone.

Replace battery cover and press talk to see if hear dial tone.
