Checking your Credit Report

Question:

How can I check my credit report?

Answer:

Knowing your credit rating and understanding how it is impacted is an important part of managing your creditworthiness. A good credit history will help you obtain credit when you need it. It’s also a good idea to check it occasionally to make sure no mistakes have been made.
Every time you give a company permission to carry out a credit enquiry, it is registered on your report. Too many credit enquiries may impact your rating. If you apply for a copy of your report directly from the credit rating agency, this will not affect your credit score. Call Equifax at 1-800 465 7166 to obtain a free copy of your credit report by mail. You can also obtain the report straight away online through Equifax at https://www.econsumer.equifax.ca/ca/main?lang=en .  Equifax charge a fee for this service.
